How Do We Feel About AI?
Participants share their current feelings about AI by choosing one of five options: Hostile, Indifferent, Cautious, Positive, or Excited.
When?
I use this as an opening activity to gauge the room and spark discussion.
Key Learning
Every perspective on AI is valid. This activity creates a safe space for open and informed exploration.
Cards
You will need the following emoji cards from the 1€ Starter Kit:
Other Materials
- Voting tokens (I use LEGO bricks)
- Slide with instructions and voting scale
- For large groups: Use the Stormz template to gather votes
Step-by-Step
Step 1: Voting
Display the question: "How do you currently feel about the role of AI in your life or work?"
Provide emoji cards and voting tokens. Participants place their token next to the emoji card that best reflects their feelings:
- 😡 Hostile: "I think AI is harmful or frustrating."
- 😕 Negative: "I see AI as a risk."
- 🤔 Cautious/Prudent: "I see potential in AI but have concerns."
- 😊 Positive: "I see AI as helpful or beneficial."
- 🤩 Excited: "I’m excited about AI and its potential."
Step 2: Debrief
Facilitate a discussion by emphasizing that all perspectives are valid. Reassure participants that the goal is to explore AI with an open, informed mindset—not to change their opinions.
Variants
- 💖 My Favorite Setup: I like to place a single set of emoji cards on a table near the entrance, so participants can vote as they arrive.
- Table Discussions: I provide each table with a set of emoji cards. After everyone has voted, I encourage participants to share their thoughts with their group.
- Digital Voting: For larger groups, I combine physical cards with a digital platform like Stormz. You can use the pre-built Stormz Quiz template I’ve included in your Starter Kit.
