Tips for Training Design & Facilitation

A growing collection of insights on how I design and facilitate engaging training sessions.

This guide is a work in progress. I’ll continue adding general tips and tricks for how I design and facilitate training sessions or workshops with the AI Tinkerers' Cards (and even without them, by the way!).

Learning Through Discovery

When facilitating with the AI Tinkerers' Cards, I rarely start by explaining concepts upfront.

Instead, I design activities where participants may not immediately know the answer. This intentional uncertainty creates opportunities for critical thinking, collaboration, and discussion. By grappling with non-obvious challenges, participants become more engaged in the process.

When the answer is finally revealed, they’re attentive and more likely to remember it because they’ve worked through the problem themselves.

That said, it’s crucial to strike the right balance—the activity should be challenging enough to spark curiosity but not so difficult that participants feel stuck without anything to try or explore.

For an example, check out the AI Term Challenge activity.

When using the AI Tinkerers' Cards, you can print them as big or as small as you want.

For example, I printed the Fake tweet card (from the Prompting Expansion) in big, to create a fun visual element of surprise in my animation of the Like or Not activity.
